FULL MANUSCRIPT

EVALUATION

You’ve written your book. But it’s not working. You’ve done everything you can think of to make it work, but it’s still not what you want it to be. You might benefit from a full manuscript evaluation.

In a full manuscript evaluation, an editor reads your entire manuscript in order to render an overall appraisal of what works and what doesn’t. The editor identifies big-picture issues such as structure, plot, character development, and themes, and makes specific suggestions for improvement. The editor will also point out stylistic problems, as in the partial evaluation, and suggest general corrections. For example, they may point out that your dialogue tags are unclear and show you how to make them clear. But they will not point out every instance of confusing dialogue tags or correct them for you.

An editor giving a full manuscript evaluation may refer the writer to books, blogs and other resources that explain a given concept in depth.

Full Manuscript Evaluation — $1,500

How it works: Send me your full manuscript of up to 60,000 words (for longer manuscripts, add $250 for each additional 10,000 words). Within three weeks, I will send you a light markup of your manuscript (highlighting examples of the problems identified)  and an editorial letter of 5-10 pages identifying the issues (big-picture AND stylistic, described above) and offering suggestions for correction.  I will also mention anything else that may, in my judgment, pose a problem for getting your work published.

We will then schedule a one-hour ZOOM meeting to discuss the manuscript and letter.
